Education Programs
We offerDoggone Safe
andBe
a Tree programs to elementary school children
which teach safety around pets. We also talk about
pets' basic needs, grooming, vet care, training, different kinds of
pets, being kind to animals and more. We have done this program in
Canyon Lister School and Wynndel Elementary and are hoping to expand
more this fall.
We also provide PAWS dogs or dogs of PAWS members to the Special
Ed class at the local high school, Prince Charles Secondary School,
once a week as a sort of informal therapy dog program. We talk to
class members about kindness to animals, how to walk dogs properly,
and then the class members take the dogs for 45 minutes to an hour
for walks, companionship and hugs.
Pet
Education
This morning PAWS Therapy Dogs Katja and Murphy were on hand to
help make a Pet Safety presentation to this ARES Grade 5 class. The
kids learned how to approach dogs and cats properly, when not to
approach them, and what to do if they are approached by a dog they
do not know. The class was enjoyed by all and even the teachers
said they learned a lot about pet behaviours!
